Chapter 5 post

"Sometimes I wish I could lift out of myself and do something that really counts."
--pg. 41, Ask Me No Questions

What a good quote. Sometimes I feel that way, but then I look at the things I have created and feel better. I wonder if Nadira will do something that 'really counts' later in this book. I hope she does. But what does she mean by 'really counting'? Outdoing her sister? I think we'll find out soon enough (I haven't read ahead) but I don't know if it'll be sooner or later. I look forward to finding out. I want to know what Nadira can do.

  1. WOW Robin!
Really good sentence and your blog/log was awesome. I agree with you completely and well said! I do wonder what Nadira's meaning of 'Do something that counts' means. But I guess we will have to wait. Awesome blog Robin, I couldn't have said it better!

  4. I agree Claire. I would like to know what you thought of "something that counts". When I think about it, it crosses my mind that Nadira might want to pass her sister in something. But, who knows what she'll do. It might even turn out to be something bad in the readers mind, like screwing her sister's chance at college. Just a thought. Good job Robin!

  5. Great b/log, Robin! I read that and thought the same thing that you thought. Like Kat, I thought it had something to do with her sister's college education. Once again, great job

  6. I think what she means by "something that really counts" is that she wants to do something that impresses others and makes a positive change. Great quote choice Robin, your question has started quite a conversation!

  8. "But what does she mean by 'really counting'? Outdoing her sister?" That's a great question, Robin. It could be like what others above said, she could ruin her sister's chance at getting into college, or maybe it will just be something that she can be proud of. Maybe she will be proud of herself if she gets into a good college, like Aisha (probably) will. I know that the one big goal that I have in life, and I would be proud of myself if I completed, is getting a degree in law. It wouldn't surprise me if Nadira had something like that in mind.

  9. Interesting point Kat. That's really neat , Maya, i didn't know that. good point. Also agree with Lighthall, it was a good conversation starter. I am more interested in what you said: "look at things I have created" like, arts and crafts, or drawings, or schoolwork, or more metaphysical stuff? Like, friends? I want to know what Nadria can do.
